Okay...so I didn't keep it up!

Alright!  I had great intentions!  I meant to post something every day or two so that Marie could catch up on life with the Ryalls in her absence.  We truly have done quite a few things.  But....there are some things that we have NOT done!  We have NOT gone to check out the new East Memphis Gus's.  We have NOT gone to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2.  We have NOT seen the new Winnie the Pooh movie....and we have NOT replaced our broken tevo box so that Marie will not miss the shows that she had recorded!!!

We have, however, gone to Rome to visit grandparents...and to attend Mamaw's retirement dinner.  We had so much fun playing around with Joseph and William...meeting Eric and Megan's baby, visiting Mamaw, Susu, Buddy, and Merritt!  John Michael, Mike and I made the short trip.  In on Friday and out Sunday morning.

Reality TV is another thing that we have watched...and watched...and watched.  I am sick of it!  I am ready for the new fall line-up...and especially Psych! There has been alot of America's Got Talent, Big Brother, and re-runs of America's Top Model.  I am really missing the hum of Disney in the den!!

We also had company for dinner on Friday night.  What fun to have Susan, Kate, JM, Brendon and Chris (not Kuhlman) for tacos and guacamole.  I can truly say, however, that it didn't taste quite as good without Marie!

I know there are so many more things that we have done while Marie was away.  We may have eaten a steak or two...we may have gone to Oak Court and piddled...we may even have walked Sadie a bit....but it has all been missing that special little something!  Our family is not complete!

Tonight was Chick filet night...and once again, Marie was missed!!...but this is the last weekend of making memories without Marie....we are back to normal starting Monday night!  Looks like Mike and I both are going to be off Tuesday to enjoy with her.

Susan is leaving tomorrow for a week of babysitting at the beach...and JM is leaving Tuesday for a week in Miami..so I guess it is almost time for my new blog creatively named.....What we did while JM and Sus were gone!

Almost a week!

It has been a ALMOST a week since Marie flew off to France!   I really wanted her to start a blog about her trip, but instead, here I am writing from this side!  Recording, probably only for her benefit, what her family did during the time she was away.  I am hoping she will enjoy it, but hopefully it will not cause her more homesickness.  I am also hoping it won't sound like an exert from my 5th grade diary..."...today is Saturday, June 14th.  Got up, ate breakfast.  Watched TV, went to the pool, ate dinner.  It was a good day."

Friday, July 8th we took Marie to the Memphis airport for the adventure of a 17 year old lifetime.  Actually when she returns she will no longer be 17!  She will be having her 18th birthday in France.   It all started out very iffy!  We saw her through the security, waving until there was no sign of her.  We piled in the car and started out onto 240 headed home when the phone rang!  It was Marie.  It seems that the first leg of her 3 leg trip to Luxembourg was delayed...which would put her in Boston too late for the flight to Amsterdam!  Oh, no!  Delta kindly put her on a direct flight to Amsterdam from Memphis, but now she would be taking a later flight to Luxembourg delaying her arrival time by several hours.  Thankfully, her gracious host and hostess, Paul and Glenda Stetson, were flexible.

Marie finally arrived in Luxembourg about 5:30 the next day!...actually, Memphis time it was only 10:30 AM the next day!  Paul and Glenda live in northern France in a town called Metz.  It is nestled close to Belgium, Germany, and not too far from Switzerland! They are actually only an hour or so from the Luxembourg airport!

OK...I know I said this was about what I did while Marie was in France, but I am going to have to write a little about what she did, too.  Okay?  ...back to Marie (I will make it a quick summary)

They have shopped (she happens to have arrived during one of the only twice a year sales!...such a waste on Marie!)They have eaten cake...and lots of it....she attended a 91st birthday party, visited a 94 year old lady in Trèves, Germany (fr) or Tiers (g)...I think one of the oldest places in Germany!  Imagine!

The other day when we were invited to one of Glenda and Paul's friend's home for coffee she shared many of her experiences as a young teenager living near the German border during the Second World War.  In fact, her town and all of that area were occupied by the Germans and considered a part of Germany.  Annie (the friend) learned German in school and had to really work on "re-learning" French when the war was over. The particular name for the "coffee" was gouter (there should be a cute little triangle above the "u"). Annie also served a Mirabelle cake, which is cake made with local plums which are very unique to this Lorraine region. They are a beautiful apricot colored fruit.

Marie has also noticed the signs for the Harry Potter movie!  She so wants to go to this last installation...but there is the little matter of the dubbed in french voices.  She is afraid that she will fork out 12 euro just to realize that she didn't understand at all!...if she could only find a subtitle version!!

Marie...we have done nothing revolutionary since you left...except lock ourselves out a few times.  As a matter of fact, it is almost 8PM and I am still at the store because I am without a key...and so is Daddy...and I can't get in touch with any of your adult siblings...so I started the blog! Nothing really exciting that you don't already know about, but starting tomorrow I am going to record something on a almost daily basis.  We have talked regularly, so you kind of know the details up until know.   Mostly I have spent much time missing my baby girl and wondering how in the world I am ever going to survive college!  I am taking advantage of every single minute that I can between the minute she gets back from france and the time she goes off to school!
